Stress or real symptoms/

I have had COPD for many years. I am 71 and use Advair, Spiriva, Vasotec for BP. I use oxygen most nights  but not during the day.  Recently had pain under left breast that lasted several days and has reoccured. My breathing is worse than it used to be and I am out of breath easily. I am not overweight, no smoking or drinking, Lately I have been getting a lot of headaches and belching. Heart doctor did a nuclear strees test and wants to do a cardic cath but I had been told for years by a pulmonary doctor never to have surgery unless emergency because he felt if i went on a respirator that i would never be able to come off it. I know you are awake during a cath but if they found something then what? I do have a DNR.

Even patients with severe COPD do OK with surgery.  I would discuss your concerns with the cardiologist.

I was just reading about respiratory problems in another thread because I have similar symptoms to you, only I am 26.  I have been having shortness of breath ( feel like I have to yawn to catch my breath, and sometimes can't), pain in my chest on the left side...many times it feels like someone is pinching me really hard under my ribs, digestive problems and headaches.  I also have recently developed eczema.  Someone in the other forum suggested that among other things, the problem could be a result of chronic dehydration.  So, I did a search and the symptoms for this are  chronic fatigue, short-term memory loss, digestive problems including constipation, gastritis, eczema, angina, rheumatism, and urinary tract infections.  I would still consult your doctor because you want to rule out anything serious, but maybe this will help...regardless, drinking more water is always good for you.  I hope this helps and best wishes to you.

Hi:

In a few weeks, I will turn sixty. I've been experiencing coughing, wheezing and short breathing for two years. Concomitantly with these symptoms, my BP, which is ordinarily normal, becomes dramatically elevated. I have been taking advair. Not only it helps me in coping with the COPD symptoms, but it lowers my BP to normal. However, the doctor who is taking care of me is more interested in prescribing BP medications than taking into account what seems to be my fundamental condition. What do you think?
