Sudden worsening of symptoms

by crud, Dec 18, 2008 12:36PM
I have just experienced a sudden worsening of symptoms.  My pulmo prescribed Methylprednisolone to help open my bronchial tubes.  My next appointment with him is on Jan 2nd or I would ask him the following question.  Before I ask let me give a bit more information.  Before the attack I was functioning in a pretty normal life.  Doctor had not even put me on any kind of long term steroids.  Now all at once my chest is tight--im reaching for breath--and Im secreting regular amounts of mucous.  We believe the attack was brought on by my exposure to large amounts of cat urine odor.  The doctor seems to think the symptoms are temporary and no new damage will become of it.  However, this is the most mucous ive ever secreted since being diagnosed.  My question is---does the increased level of tightening in the chest and the increased level of mucous output indicate new damage--or--is it possible that I have just experienced some irritation and will make a full recovery?

This discussion is related to breathing difficulty.

I have found that my asthma is triggered by environmental factors such as heavily perfumed persons, even floor wax. After aggressive therapy, I get better. I think that after time, you will too as long as you stay away from whatever is irritating your lungs. Constant re exposure will make things worse or continue like you are.
Steroids do wonders for asthmatics, I hate taking them but whenever I do, I feel so much better as far as bronchospasms go. Hopefully you will too.
IF things don't improve for you, then maybe you should see an allergist who would do formal testing on you to see exactly what is triggering your asthma.
Good luck and feel better,
Sunny
