Teen w/ chest pain and breathing problems

by Supmom810, Oct 04, 2004 12:00AM
I have a 13 yr old that had surgery for pectus excavatum in May.  He is still complaining of chest pain and not being able to breath when he is laying on his back.
I have requested copies of his CT Scan and Xrays and the findings were as follows:
Small pleural based nodule in the right lower lobe of unclear etiology
Anterior Mediastinal mass is noted, possible thymic remnant due to patients age
Nonspecific axillary and mediastinal adenopathy is noted.
My son has extreme fatigue, easily out of breath and is losing weight.  His bloodwork was normal for the exception of his EBV titers. IgM neg, IgG pos, and EBNA positive.
Could these findings possibly be the cause of his breathing difficulty and chest pain? Would you recommend a follow up? What would cause a nodule in a teen?
Thank you for any info you can share.

Your son will need to have a thorough physical exam by a pulmonologist to find the nature of the problem that is causing the nodule, the mass, and the adenopathy.  Only then will it be possible to answer your questions.
