Tense discomfort in lower throat

I've been having the same tense discomfort where my esophagus and collar bone meet. It started about two days ago and the discomfort randomly occurs throughout the day.
I do not have any allergies where I currently live and I do not feel stressed out (even though finals are in a week)
The only thing I can think of is something related to mono? I had mono 3 month ago and have not been sick since I got better from it.
Any ideas of what it could be?

Did you ever try taking acid reflux meds or GERD meds? this may be a reason for it. Try and let us know. Meds include Prolosec, Zantac 150 or 300mg or Prescription grade Nexium 40mg
