The Bedridden And Mucus

My Mom is 95, bedridden and has congestion in her chest; if she could give one good cough, I would be able to suction it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Placing your Mom in a variety of positions (supine, face down, left side, right side, head slightly lower than rest of body on a slant) for 15-30 minutes. I suggest that you visit this web-site for a primer on chest percussion and postural drainage; this page for patients with cystic fibrosis but applicable to anyone who is having trouble clearing secretions.  Also, attempt to get your Mom out of bed, to sit in a comfortable chair twice a day.

Good luck
