Tonsilitis- How to prevent in the future and how to self treat

Hello, I am a little dismayed-- i had tonsilitis earlier in the year (may) and twice-- and took two full rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it-- i was miserable-- extremely high fevers ect--- sooo... anyway.. no problems the rest of the year-- until this afternoon-- and i have a mild sore throat accompanied by slight swelling in the same tonsil that was affected last time-- i'm not sure if i'm jumping the gun-- but this is exactly what happened last time-- i had a day with really mild to next to no symptoms-- i woke up the next day and thought i was going to die---- (it is now the end of nov-- so its been several several months with no reinfection in between)--- soo... anyway.. i'm worried that its the same thing again but dont have money to go to the doctor again or get new antibioitcs--- anyhow-- i was wondering if it does turn out to be as bad as last time if there is a way to self medicate to get rid of it... also.... i do have a wisdom tooth in the final stages of erruption (it has been just under the surface towards the back of the tooth but the rest of the tooth has been exposed for years-- and i have possibly a slight infection in my gums in that area i've been trying to clean and take care of the past couple days--- it is on the same side as that tonsil-- so maybe it is just swollen trying to accomodate the infection in my gums?) the sooner you could answer the better since if its anything like last time i'll be incapacitated tomorrow :/ thanks

--ohh-- in addition to any info on self treating for tonsilitis-- does anyone know of a way to PREVENT future infections after the family has all gotten over it and the house has been disinfected/cleaned out.... because i seriously still have no idea how i got it the FIRST time around-- much less this time
Thanks in advance!

turned out that i had a gum infection around that wisdom tooth that caused an ear infection and subsquently some minor swelling in my tonsils--but not tonsilitis specifically (which explains the lack of any noteworthy fever) anyway- i'm still fighting it- i'm about to start my second round of antibiotics :( unfortunately it looks like i may have to remove that wisdom tooth because of the way my gums sit on it- Thanks for your input though

Well theres no way to prevent tonsilitis...I've had tonsilitis once a year all my life, now i think it is getting chronic...I also have tonsils stone...count yourself lucky if you dont have them.Tonsils stones are a pain in the butt, they stinks and you always have the sensations that something is caught in your throat...Doctor told me my tonsils were inflamed but not enought to have em removed. So they basically told me get out of here and live with it,theres nothing we can do.
