What is the best over-the-counter medication for tonsilitis?

Tonsillitis is usually an infection. It can be viral or bacterial. Viral tonsillitis usually lasts for 2 or 3 days, does not make you very sick, causes a low-grade fever and goes away without antibiotics. Usually cold medications help with the symptoms. Bacterial tonsillitis is usually caused by Strep and is more severe. It makes you feel worse, causes a higher fever and requires antibiotics. If you are having a problem that feels like it is not getting better and you are feeling sick, I would suggest seeing your physician for a throat culture.
