Tonsilitis

My son has just been diagnosed with tonsilitis. He has been given an antibiotic to cure it. Can you let me know if it is contagious - should he be mixing with children at his nursery?

Bacterial tonsillitis is contagious for at least 48 hours after starting antibiotics. If it’s viral, it could be contagious for even longer.  I would hold your child home for at least 2 days after the treatment has started and see how he is doing. If it is a bacterial infection, he will be much better and able to return to school.
