Trouble Breathing every day...help

In june I started having trouble taking in a full breath.I went to the ER where a chest XRay done.I was sent home with an Albuterol inhaler & told its where I smoke.I smoke 5-15 cigarettes a WEEk if that)I was told to follow up with my family Dr. I did and he said I was stressed & he would give me a pulmonary function to prove he was right. Had that done & it suggested I had narrowing of the upper trachea.I was sent to a pumonoligist who diagnosed me with asthma.I was put on inhalers for a few weeks with no change & then was told I had allergies and was put on  med for a few weeks w/no change. Finally the Dr.said I had anxiety so I was put on zoloft for over a month w/ no change just gave me bad headaches. Finally he said I was overweight (Im a sz. 14 )I decided to get a 2nd opinion & was sent to another dr.I have a dent in my chest from where I was born but its not extreme. He put me on advil 3 times a day for a week thinking my musles in my chest may be strained. No change.I also have enlarged tonsils.had a sinus scan done & it was ok & sent me to an E&T Dr She stuck a light down my nose to look in my throat & said my thoat looked ok.she said she saw that the back of my voice box was burnt from reflux. She said it was not VCD or tonsils causing trouble.I have been on nexium for 2-3 weeks with no change.I hurt down at the bottom of my throat where my voice box is.Feel like I have beenpunched in the bottom of my throat.also hurts alot when I touchit.its worse in mornings doesnt wake me from sleep and is every day.im 22 female & miserable. Please help me.

You will need to be evaluated further to find out what is causing your problem and what can be done about it.  Being seen by a pulmonologist at the university medical center closest to you should help with this.  If traveling to Denver, Colorado is feasible, National Jewish Medical and Research Center could provide a thorough outpatient evaluation.  Please call LUNG LINE

You'll get good advice from the LUNG LINE nurses, after the weekend. In the meantime:

1)Go to the ER if you have any breathing problems, or, call for an ambulance.

2)Try not to smoke at all, to help your voice box (larynx) heal, AND, because smoking makes gastric reflux worse, which re-damages your larynx.

3)There are some gastric reflux tips and sinus tips you can consider trying (with your doctor's permission), by clicking on page 10 of:

Hang in there! People here understand the tough times you are going through. If you don't get enough help, in your area, talk to a LUNG LINE nurse about maybe going to Nat'l Jewish Medical & Research Center (in Denver, CO) --a wonderful Respiratory medical center! Call 1-800-222-LUNG(5864), to speak with a LUNG LINE nurse about your problems, and about maybe going to Nat'l Jewish.

Good luck to you.

Sincerely, Concerned lady

Hi Miserable,
sounds like you just need to quit smoking and  get exercising  at a  high aerobic level  for 20 to 60 mins a day 4 times a week.  IF  all the   treatments your going through are not  helping.
ASTHMA And  COPD are different  Causes but have the same   responses   inflamed airways !
If you dont respond to  albuterol  Or inhaled  bronchial dilators dont help at all   then   your  just  not stressing the lungs enough  in your daily duties. I dont know your age but you should be performing at 600L /minute  or better on a PEEK flow test.  IF your  at 450  or less your in  trouble !
You need to see a Pulmonologist and perhaps  try  THEOPHYLINE  not a great  choice of drug  but Its  efficient at its function.    a good   respiratory program is  prophilactic in nature   and consists of several drugs  your doctor and pulmonologist are the  persons to make these decisions.
Strenuous exercise  will   rebuild apparently dead lungs   Dont be scared! Suffocation is  hell  if you have been that bad you will know! Drugs can do so much butto get better and protect against  bronchial  diseases  Bronchitus (bronchitis)  pneumponia  and worse  QUIT smoking and  exercise.
1 cigerette is 1 too many.

You have a dent in your chest?  there is a disorder of the heart that has a "dent" in the chest.  It is down the sternum and it seems to be caving in.  I would recommend going to a cardiologist and having an evaluation.  But that's just me and my opinion.  Keep us posted!  Thanks  chad

Have your thyroid checked, too.  Throat pain like you describe is a common symptom of thyroiditis (inflammed thyroid).  It's worth checking it out because it can be "just that simple" as taking a pill or more serious.  Ask for a thyroid panel and a sonogram, too.  Good luck!
