Let's see. it is May 2010 and still have it. Might even be worse than it was a year ago. Was at the doctor again yesterday and they don't have a clue yet, and not sure they even believe me. I have a lump under my ear, by jaw. Have had tons of test on it. She is thinking it is a "bad" salivary gland. If that is it, I wonder if this that I think is mucus is really thick saliva from bad gland. Does that make sense? She says...it will die off on it's own. I have not read one thing about that anywhere. People have them taken out.....they don't die off. Well doesn't seem like they would. I will ask my brother. He is a doctor, maybe he could help.

Hi There,

It's really good to communicate with someone that has been there... I'm glad to hear that you are being positive and excepting this that has happened to you.  You know sometimes like last week I was really struggling again to stay on my feet, because of this problem.  But God gave me the strenght to stand up again. You know I sometimes say to myself that this is just a phase that I'm going through, a changing phase.  God wants to use us!  He uses weak, broken people, but it is up to us to fight and be strong.  People can't heard you, by making noises, saying bad things to you.  It's up to us to choose how we are going to react to this problem.  I choose to Trust God my brother, even though it is hard.  I will pray for you!  Tell me from where are you?  I'm from South Africa.  Let's stay in contact.  Have a blessed day.

I so understand what you are going through. I have that gel like junk constantly too. I just don't get it.Where it came from out of nowhere. I have that along with a chronic sore neck, always wonder if it is related. I have had so many tests too. I was thinking about bothering my doctor again and asking for yet another test. They blow me off all the time. Mornings are the worse for me, I mean I have it all day long but when I wake up it is literally stuck in my throat, almost like rubber. I have no clue what to do or where to turn. I would love to spend my money on vacations rather than mucus. It is scary too, I find myself worrying it is an early sign of something much worse. I want to get better. Maybe we should invest in a couple of tickets to Hawaii and go "swim in the salt water" wouldn't that be crazy if it really worked for us? I have some tests next week...again. We'll see what those show, it is an upper GI that I am having. Some believe it is GERD. I will let you know

Hi Laaz, I really feel your pain brother.  I now how it feels, I really do.
I have also had the same mindset of questioning why me! Sometimes I still do.  I have learned that everything happens for a reason, and while I'm on this earth I will make the best of it.  God will come through for us, just hang in there.  God has given life as a gift to us and we cannot decide to end it when things get hard.  I was a very free person a few years ago, but now I'm a bit closed up, because of this problem.  I have told my girlfriend about it, and she understands fully, and I thank God for that.  We need to be positive, everyday I motivate myself by reading the bybel, praying, listening to the promises that God has given us in his Word.  Please don't blame God, He knows what he is doing.  He is God!  I will keep you posted on an update.

I do not get sinus infections.  I have chronic thick post nasal drainage.  It NEVER STOPS.  I have used sinus irrigation twice a day for almost 7 yrs. It does not help.  The nasal sprays don't help either.  My under eyes are swollen, almost fluid filled, they feel like squishy skin - fluid under skin tissues.  They have a purplish discoloration under them as well.  I can feel the mucus transport from the ethmoid, maxillary, and frontal sinuses drain. - constantly - as the sinuses produce mucus constantly.   when I irriigate my nose , thick gel like mucus comes out.  I just can't stand this anymore.  My life is ruined and I don't enjoy life anymore - anything or anybody.  I wish I would just go to sleep and not wake up.  Most people think that Vasomotor rhinitis is thin watery drainage out the front of your nose but it can also be thick and go down the back of your throat.  I had a total ethmoidectomy, maxillary antrostomy (made bigger holes) and since I had the surgery last october my drainage is even worse now.  You can't put back your ethmoids or make your sinus drainage holes smaller.  The mucus thinners don't help either.  NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!!!  The doctors don't do research on this because this is not life threatening as they say.   Well, if a person does not have this , they have NO idea how it effects a persons life.   Wish I was dead!!!         Sorry about going on and on about my problems.   Thanks for posting.            Laaz

God has nothing to do with this problem..it would make you wonder that if there was a God, then how could he allow such a social debilitating disease to affect certain folks of the population..(Stepping off my Soap box)
Now..the matter at hand..This disease boils down to a war with "Bacteria" which act like "little soldiers" who fight back and mutate the more you fight back with antibiotics.
The key is to have a CT scan done through your ENT to determine if you have blockage. Then use nasal steroids to decrease inflammation and promote drainage.Alway's keep a saline nasal spray to keep the sinuses moist at all times and remember that the more years you are stuck with this disease (there is no cure if you are diagnosed with sinusitis or chronic sinusitis) the stronger antibiotic you will have to use and in many cases you may become anti-biotic resistant and just "Stuck like Chuck" with this bad condition.
Brushing the back of your tongue with Peroxide and baking soda will fight off the bacteria that drains down your throat temporarily and if your mucous is thick, then you definitely need the nasal steroid and nasal thinner to dry up thick mucuos but Drink water constantly or you will dry up and the smell will get worse. Stay away from sugar, starches, white bread, alcohol, carbonated sodas, potatoe chips and snack chips because it interacts with the bacteria Post nasal drip and produces a bad smell on your breath and nose    Be careful of irrigating sinuses especially if you have inflammation because the irrigation solution can get trapped and make things worse.
It's a vicious cycle that many ENT's dont even understand unless they have had the problem themselves or have done extensive research on the topic and are willing to listen and take the time to fully diagnose the patient instead of using strictly textbook principles because there are many different problematic symptoms to this disease that vary from patient to patient. ie. Not all folks have runny infected sinuses with lots of sneezing, instead, it may be constant dryness and inflammation of the nasal passages and lack of cilia activity to produce mucuos to keep the nasal passages moist and bacteria-free. Introverts tend to deal with this disease better that extraverts who can often suffer depression or even consider suicide because of the debilitating nature of this disease. Many have suffered for years and have quietly given up and now live secluded lifestyles or have withdrawn from normal lifestyles. It's really a sad condition and unfortunately most people are ignorant and unfamiliar with the disease and boil it down simply to someone who is just too lazy to brush their teeth when many folks who suffer from this brush 4 to 5 times a day and constanly use gum, mints, etc. to block the smell which do not work. But if trust in God helps a person live with this disease..fine...whatever it takes...

I had this problem about two years ago, it was bought on by a bad flu and hung around even after I had got over it, I guess the infection also spread to my nasal cavity as well.

I tried Antibiotics and Nasal spray, the nasal spray was a very temporary relief and I relied on it for about two months, but each time the relief was smaller. I ended up having to stop the nasal spray because it started to irritate my nostrils and make them swell more. The anitbiotics didnt seem to do much at all, probably because my flu was already gone.

The way that I got rid of it was I went to the beach! you know how you go swimming in the waves and you get 'tap nose'? you go back to your beach towel to sunbake, lay down face first and your nose drips for about 10 seconds? that was what seemed to fix it for me. So i guess that a strong saline solution would have also worked but I didnt try that, I will be trying that now actually because It has come back again after another bad flu, I just hope I can get rid of it before it bothers my wife too much.

Good luck to everyone else in getting rid of this! I know how bad this smell can be!

Hi Laaz, I'm sorry if you feel that way.  You are so wrong when you say that I don't know what you are going through.  I have the same problem, and know what all of you guys are going through.  I was not trying to put you down.  I'm sorry if I did!  You know I have also seen a lot of doctors and couldn't understand why this was happening to me.  a few years ago I didn't have this problem and was living a great life, but now things are a bit hard.  I just turned to God with this problem, because what is impossible to man is possible for God.  I believe there is a reason why I have this problem, and I know that all things will work out for good.  This problem will go away!  I have made peace with this problem, and just see it as a challenge, because I'm just for a little sort while on this earth.  I will not allow life to stand in my way of being happy.  I will pray for you brother.  Currently I'm working for a good company and earning a lot of money, and I must say it is a challenge to work with a lot of people, when you smell this way.  I also have my downtimes where I wonder why ME.  But realised that that will not do me any good.  We need to stay positive, and believe in God.  Go well brother.

I really admire what you said brother in Christ. I too been going through this difficult problem, and I as well ask my self "why me?" but I just want to say that it is all in Gods hands. Sometimes doctors don't always know why things are the way they are, but I know that God will make a way. He is the creator of all things and I'm pretty sure he knows why we have these problems. Pray for me and ill pray for you as well, even though it may be hard to be happy but at least we know were not alone in this, God bless.

God is not going to fix a smelly nose or constant post nasal drainage.  If you don't have a problem as these people do, you have no idea how it feels.  We would be willing to try just about anything that would make us feel better and to get back feeling the way we use to before we got whatever it is that is wrong with our nose and sinuses.  I think you should really be on some religous forum and not on a respiratory disorder forum.      Laaz
