Very BAD deep chest pain

A few days ago I woke up coughing and I had one big cough and all of a sudden I had this huge chest pain.. It doesn't feel like a burning pain, if feels like someone is constantly stepping on my chest. It's a deep pain, almost like it may be bruise? The pain has not gone away for about 4-5 days and I don't know if I should go to the doctor or not.. I'm only 18. The pain is a little bit above the breast area, right in the middle. I don't really know many terms or parts of my body but maybe it's the diaphragm? It hurts when I turn my body from one side to the other, when I breathe in deeply (but not out), it hurts when I lift heavy things, or when I laugh, and I can usually only sleep on my back, otherwise I have the discomfort chest pain. I thought I may have pulled a muscle or something.. but it seems to be getting worse, rather than better, so I was just asking what you think it may be..

Also...if the pain is bad enough, please see your doctor for treatment options and a thorough exam. Sunny

Sounds like it could be costochondritis...which is fairly common in young people it seems. Here is a good link that describes what costochondriis is, treatment options, symptoms etc...I hope it helps you: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/costochondritis/article_em.htm
