What was/is wrong with me???

Hi,

I'm hoping you can help me out...I wasn't able to get anywhere with any of my doctors. I'm just concerned because I have no idea what was/is wrong with me...here's my story...sorry it's a little long. Hope you can help...

Back in December '06 I came down with a bout of Strept throat. Then in February I came down with the worst illness of my life! fever up to 104 for 5 days, sore throat, exudates on tonsils, tonsils so swollen i couldn't breathe, headache, chills, night sweats, etc. Went to the ER after 5 days and they diagnosed me with pneumonia and gave me levaquin. I didn't have any cough but for some reason was diagnosed with pneumonia. About 5 days later I developed what a neurologist diagnosed as post infectiousI neuropathy. Tingling in my fingers and toes, burning feelings throughout, etc. I was pretty much tested for everything including - influenza, strep throat, mono, B-12 deficiency, HIV, etc...all NEGATIVE! So, of course I was worried thinking about HIV ars and what not so I got tested again at 13 months via rapid test and it was NEGATIVE as well. The only exposure I could think of was 3 weeks before my illness making out with a stripper in las vegas...not smart i'm sure. I had some lab work done at about 3 months post illness and my results were: HIV 1/2 - Neg/// mono test - neg/// Rpr- nonreactive/// EBV AB Panel - Anti VCA/IgG - pos, Anti VCA/IgM - neg, Anti EBNA - pos/// CMV serology test IgG, IgM - neg/// Parvo B19 IgG pos IgM neg/// Mycoplasma pneumonia IgG 1:40, IgM <1:10 -

You seem to be describing an illness that was last a problem over a year ago.  I can't tell what is going on now.  The EBV AB panel and the Anti-EBNA suggest that you were, at some time in the past, infected with the Epstein-Barr virus.

So, from what I see it looks like I was negative for pretty much the common illnesses. Any idea what might have been wrong with me? I keep getting sick ever since with little colds, fevers, sore throats, etc. - tired all the time, lethargic, etc. - Is this chronic fatigue syndrome - If so, is there anything to make it better? Can I finally put HIV out of my mind!!!?  I am very active, play a lot of sports, workout, etc. - where should I go from here?
