Why do I feel a sharp pain in my upper left abdomen while breathing deeply?

I feel a sharp pain in my upper left abdomen (just under the ribs) while breathing. The pain get worse the deeper I breath. Also, the intensity of the pain increasing after having a meal. Why is it happening? The doctor I went to said that it must be a minor pain due to gas but I doubt him. It's been 5 days with this problem and there is neither any improvement nor deterioration. Can somebody tell me what's happening to me?
