ache in one lung

I am a 19 year old female.  I have had a constant 'tickle' sensation on the left side of my throat, making me cough, for two years.  I have tried allergy pills, an inhaler, allergy shots and an X-ray w/out success.  Last month, this coughing stopped, but the area that tickled now aches, slightly but constantly, and my left lung has slight pain radiating around in it a few times a day?
Is this something to worry about or am I over reacting? I've found similar questions on this forum, but never W/ only one lung affected. is this significant?  Sorry this question is so long.

The problem you've had in your throat and the pain of the lung may or may not be related.  At your age, both are probably benign but you shouldn't assume that.  As described, the chest pain is most likely on a musculoskeletal basis or secondary to what is called intercostal neuritis.  It could also be secondary to a pinched nerve, in or near the spine, where all the nerves of the chest emerge.

You should have another chest x-ray and may need a CT scan of your chest.  You should have a careful, thorough exam of your throat by an ENT doctor.  If the chest pain persists for 60 days or more or if it becomes more frequent or progressively more severe, you should see a pulmonologist.  Carefully consider your usual, or not so usual, physical activities to determine if one or more of these might have led to strain of one or more structures in your chest wall.
