afternoon cough

by sylviod, Jun 18, 2003 12:00AM
Hello

I have, for the past year, a dry couch which start in the afternoon and stop as soon as I get home and relax. Nothing at night neither in the morning. Even during the day, if i relax and close my eyes it stops. It feels itchy near my torax or lungs...

This cough is really annoying, I am a smoker but reduced to practically no cigarettes and the cough is still there.

The cough seems more intense when I am stressed. I have other tics as well since I am young (I have a mild form of Tourette syndrome).

How can you help? Is this a nervous cough? If yes what can I do?

I saw four doctors and they all said to drink water a lot and stop smoking...

What do you think?

Thanks

Sylvio

It is hard to imagine a significant medical problem such as asthma or bronchitis, which causes a cough with the pattern you have described.  The smoking could have caused the initial irritation, which is aggravated at certain times by other factors, such as stress.  I think the recommendations you have been given by the 4 doctors are good ones.  The effects of smoking take a long time to go away.
