breathing discomfort

by Juansan, May 08, 2005 12:00AM
I have been on Advair 250/50 for over a year and have been symptom free.  Recently I have had problems breathing which was diagnosed as asthma due to allergies.  I have never had allergy symptoms like runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, etc.  I was treated with a round of prednisone along with Advair.  My question is I'm still having a little tightness in the center area of my chest even though I am registering at my max using a peak flow meter.  Has anyone else had this problem and how was it treated?  If peak flow readings are good do you still use a rescue med like albuterol?

Peak flow readings do not measure what is going on in the small airways.  It is very possible to have chest tightness with reduced flow in the small airways and have a normal peak flow reading.  I would speak to your doctor about temporarily increasing the frequency of your Advair ™ Diskus® (fluticasone/salmeterol) to see if this helps.

I had similar sounding symptoms for while and was give asthma inhalers but it wasn't asthma. It was a food alelrgy causing excessive mucous in the respiritory areas - post nasal drip and further down. Since avoid wheat/gluten and soy I've returned tp 100% normal. I also did some breathing retraing to learn to diaphragm breathe properly instead of chest breathing. Chest pains from coughing and over inflating the chest have gone. good luck.

Hi,
could you tell me what medication it was? I almost died during a breathing attack and am now diagnozed with Astma... never had Astma until I was prescibed Vicodin. Now I am starting to do some research on breathing problems and taking Hydrocodin, Vicodin, OxyCottin, Roxicodone, Morphine..
