burning in lungs with some pain

I have a burning sensation in my lungs with some pain.  It is hard to breathe a little while my lungs are burning.  They aren't congested and I haven't been sick.  This has been going on for a few months now.  The doctor thought it was gerd, but I also get chest pains sometimes (an EKG came back normal).  I've been taking Prilosec, but it doesn't seem to be working; neither do Tums.  Can anyone tell me what this might be?  Also, my sons parakeet died of some sickness shortly before I had symptoms--could it be possible that the sickness was contagious to humans?

Have you had any x-ray, CT-scan, MRI, or the like done of your lungs? You should certainly insist your doctor do this. If s/he won't, find a doctor who will.
