can i mix the proventil and adderal xr?

i am a 50 year old woman, adhd, on adderal who is focused on organizing and cleaning her house.  problem: i am allergic to dust (and because i am newly on adderal, I am deep cleaning for the first time in 20 years, therefore, not dust bunnies, but dust harveys (like the play?).

i also seem to have a problem with the fumes from all the cleaning products.  For the last week, i have had a shallow cough and am continully coughing up clear phlegm, but the cough is persistant and i am having trouble with anything beyond deep breathing.

Every time my adderal dosage was adjusted (ie. raised mg) i experienced heart palpitations and coughing that usually lasted 1-3 days then completely subsided.  However, i would consider myself on "speed."

This allergy cough has not subsided. I am on 40 mg of adderal xr, 180 mg allegra, one tablet of profen II (decongestant) and go for monthly injections.  Important fact: i weigh 90 lbs (after having lost 5 lbs on the adderal) and have been between 88 and 96 lbs for the last 30 years.  But due to my size and natually high metabolism, i am wary of drugs prescribed for adult dosage (ie. 250 lb men)

can i mix the adderal, allegra, profen II and now add proventil?? I am afraid of heart related problems.

thank you.

I would recommend discussing these medications with your doctor and describing what you are experiencing. It may be worthwhile to take a different approach to the medications you are adding together.

I can understand your concern and would hope that the doctor that prescribed these meds is aware of the combination (or was it a different doctor?) The use of all these meds can be taxing on the vascular system and heart. Actually, increased heart rate(tachycardia) and palpitations (arrhytmias) are not as common as you may think with the use of proventil by itself, but CAN be potentiated by using all these drugs together. Tachycardia and palpitations were reported by 10% or less of the patients using proventil in a 13 week trial comparing proventil to another bronchodilator. However, you may be an exception and have some of the side effects. So the best advice is to make sure your doctor knows about all these meds(if he/she doesn't know already) and seek their advice on taking the proventil. There is another medicine available that works the same as proventil without some of the side effects, like increased heart rate. So ask your physician about that as well. Good luck and take care.
