chest/diaphragm pain ongoing

by TSN, Oct 07, 2008 07:23PM
Like a lot of people I started off 6 weeks ago with pain in my chest and diaphragm leading to real difficulty breathing.  I've had blood tests, chest xray, stool/urine, allergies and no answers as to why this has started has come up through my dr.  Dr is baffled.  I am 42 and have never had problems with my chest or diaphragm although I was on asthma pumps for a few years in my early 30's when I got quite a few bronchial type coughs.  I am slim, quite fit and eat fairly healthily.  My sleep patterns have also been disrupted.  It started with a virus and some days I feel better, other days I feel worse.  I also lost weight initially as my appetite has vanished.  I'm not eating again but only small meals. The breathing is the most challenging thing and it feels like something is stuck in my chest and bottom of ribs.  I went last week to a breathing clinic and it seems that I do more upper respiratory breathing and this isn't great for the body.  They have been retraining me to breath through my nose and diaphragm and almost immediately some of the chest pain went leading me to think that it was muscular and possibly breathing related.  My  partner thinks I still have a bit of the virus as he caught it a few weeks after me and while he hasn't got the breathing problem like me he has had a bad chest with it.  I take the odd antacid when it gets too tight on my chest and this seems to relieve it a bit so there might be some reflux issue too but again my partner has had this with his virus.  I't's been a particularly nasty virus so I just wanted to share my experience with you in case it offers any insights.  I am going to the breathing clinic each week until my breathing is smoother in my diaphragm area.  It certainly seems to be helping on a muscular level.

This discussion is related to Ribcage pain/ diaphragm pain with deep breathing upon waking.
