chest tightness and shortness or breath

by rollercoasterlove, Mar 05, 2007 12:00AM
my daughter is 12 years old and is a very active, athletic girl. she started having a tight chest 2006 christmas when we were hiking in high altitudes. when she came home, however, she was fine...until october of this year. she went and got tested for asthma at our family doctor and she said that my daughter has exercise enduced asthma. the albuterol did not seem to work very well, so we went back to the doctor after an asthma attack. the doctor put my daughter on advair and prentazone as well. 3 days later, she is coughing and short of breath. i decide to call an ambulance and when the come they say that her o2 level is normal. they give her oxygen anyways and figured out that she was hyperventilating. the following day we got a nebulizer hoping that this would not happen again, but just in case. we also go to the asthma and allergy specialist and they review her diet. turns out she had acid reflux as well and that the mucus was blocking her airways. that doc said her stats from the asthma tests were not fitting the right profile for asthma. we scratch asthma all togeter and put her on nexium and it seemed to work. but when she runs, she still gets a tight chest and has a junky cough. should i still have her take the albuterol?? does she have asthma as well as acid reflux? i need help!

Does she wheeze when she runs?

As far as the acid reflux, it may take some time for it to heal, so she may have that problem for a few weeks.

I would consider changing her diet to find out what's causing the acid reflux. She seems a little young to have it.
