child doesn't sleep at all

Hi there. My child is 1.5 y/o, she has difficulty breathing in app. 1 hour after laying down. Her nose becomes blocked, nothing is in it, I try to clear it - it's clean. I give her drops, decongestant, it helps for a couple of hours, she can breath ok, then it becomes blocked again. She has this problem since we took away her soother at 1 year. Before that she had difficulties, but seemed to breath through the nose most of night, her mouth was blocked by the soother. Now she just opens her mouth as soon as she can't breath and then doesn't breath though the nose at all. She is moving around the bed all night, starts crying every hour. The same after app.1 hour of day's sleep. I want to check if this is an allergic reaction to the food or other substancies, I am allergic myself, to the dust, dogs, cats & pollen. I had sinusitis, was on steroid spray once and had homeopatical treatment, now haven't had any symptoms at all for the last 2 years. So, can you please tell me if this looks as allergic reaction with her? What would you recommend me to undertake regarding this matter? Thank you, Julia.

There are several possibilities for this to occur in a child of this age.  The first and probably most likely is that she is an allergic child.  Obviously you are allergic and allergy is an inherited condition.  This allergy could be to lots of different things from dust mite, to a pet if you have one and least likely to a food.  Other possible causes are nonallergic rhinitis and a chronic sinus problem.  This is also fairly common in children this age, particularly if they are allergic.  I would suggest working with your doctor about possible treatments, including looking at allergy.  You might try certain food avoidance as a possibility when you have eliminated other possible sources of the problem.
