chronic cough, help!

It is almost a year that i am suffering from a stressful chronic cough. At the beginning i took over the counter medicine and it worked,but now no medicine seems to help it. My doctor gave me Loratadine and Benzonatate. it still didn't help. When i took Mucinex with the doctor prescribed medicine, it worked. But it came back again after two weeks, and now Mucinex with combination of the doctor's medicine doesn't help. I recently had a chest ex ray, and it came out clean. I don't have heart burn or shortness of breath. It is very embarrassing to cough in public. I developed a pain in my chest because of coughing too much. My life is becoming a hell. Please help me!
