chronic hyperplastic eosinophilic sinusitis

by jr43, Mar 04, 2008 06:24PM
I have been reading your site where the young13yr old had chronic hyperplastic eosinophilia sinusitis
These 2 folks wrote in the year2004  so hopefully there may be more good news for this diagnosis
As this is a chronic inflammatory disease would proteolytic enzymes, be an appropriate treatment
I am presently a 64 yr old retired ER nurse having worked full time for over 35 yr  ended up with a staph infection in the sinus and after several infections had 2 surgeries on the sinus  and I am still taking steroids Flovent inhaler 2000mcg daily  and nasal spray rhinacort 2 daily I am told that is the equal of 15mg of oral prednisone.
I had to resign because of fatigue and not being unable to get well enough to get back to my nursing position.
I was told it could be an antigen response to the staph infection or that a viral sinusitis cause the process to cause me chronic eosinophilic sinusitis  I do not have any allergies and I was told I didn't have asthma.
I am left wondering where do i go from here of course I would like to decrease steroid use.
Before the first surgery in 2006 and until now this has been very debilitating and really affects the quality of my life.  I do sinus positive pressure sinus rinses at least twice daily since 2005
I look forward to your help and any information that could hel[p me
Until 2005 I had been very well active jogging working fulltime and enjoying a full life.
So my heart goes out to any one else with this diagnosis
Thank you

I just recently found this site and have been reading with much interest, My son, 22, has been having chronic sinus problems since spring of 2005 and has had 3 surgeries. His problems followed a bout of mono during his freshmen year of college. Previous doctors did not think there was a connection but we recently returned from the Mayo clinic. The ENT there thought it was highly likely that the mono caused a change in my son's immune response. We are waiting for cultures that may implicate the Eosinophils. One avenue that we are exploring here in the Chicago area at Rush is his antibody levels. He had a humoral panel done that showed lower than expected levels for strep and Haemophilius (sp?) . He is scheduled tto be reinoculated and then his levels will be checked again. Then he may start (although there are possible sideeffects) immunoglobulin therapy to boost his immune system. He is willing to try anything - has dropped out of school, also unable to work and now struggling with depression.

Hope this offers you some new ideas. Keep in touch - it is amazing how people can help one another!!
