constant itchy throat

I've had an itchy throat for about 5 months now. My doctor diagnosed me with whooping cough in January - but I really think I did not have it, I did not do any tests, but have a very bad cough for a few weeks (barking and very very painful in the middle of the night).

Recently I have gone back to the doctor and he told me to see a specialist who looked down my throat with a camera and then prescribed me a long course of Somac, which fixed the swelling I had, but the itchiness remains. It feels like it's on top of my lungs, on my right hand side. I just cannot get rid of it, and I'm starting to get worried.

Anyone else with similar symptoms?
