copd

My mom who is 65 has copd this last weekend she was put in icu,we where told she is in the end stage of copd,could you please exlpain to me what this really means.Also im scared her heart will not last long due to her pulse is high, if she is just laying there it is 100-120 but when she moves it goes as high as 200, i dont think the heart can do much more of this. so if you could give me any info it may make it a bit less confussing thanks shelac
