For over a year now I've had coughing fits, where I cough so hard and so long, I can barely catch my breath. There is little to no mucous. Afterwards, its hard for me to catch my breath, and I begin to wheeze very loudly. When I laugh, I begin to cough. This cough can begin unprovoked at any time of day at any place, but most frequently at home at night when I'm relaxing. Over the counter meds like Sudafed, Mucinex, etc. used to help but now have little to no effect. At 54,I have been healthy my whole life with few colds, no known allergies, I don't smoke, I eat healthy and mild exercise.I don't take medication other than tylenol and vitamins.. I'm afraid to go to a doctor because I don't want to go through rigorous allergy testing because its a convenient explanation. The symptoms are not tied to any time of year or physical location (happens at work, in the car, on vacation in the tropics). I think its a walking pneumonia.
