deep breaths is annoying

for the past three years i have been suffering with allergies, but just before christmas 08 i began to start taking in deep breaths every couple minutes which makes my head spin. someone told me this was just allergies but i'm worried. i had a very bad cold or possibly the flu a week ago and that made it even worse. Is so many people suffering now with respiratory problems due to 9/11? this is quite strange to me. please help!
