I have had a ongoing excessive sinus drainage for over 2yr. now. I have lupus and recently 2mo ago had ethmoidectomy and deviation correction to help manage the problem. Unfortunately it really hasn't helped ,now I get a constant stream of spit like maybe a little thicker, flow down the back of my throat. YUK! it's 24 - 7 I get very little sleep since I'm up coughing out mucus, anyhow, my question is this . My rheumy who saw me 2days ago gave me a depo-medrol shot to see if maybe that would help calm the sinus problem. How long should I wait to see if it is working? I notice no change as of today Sunday. He also prescribed diflucan 100mg for 14 days if medrol didn't help. I'm just not sure how much time I should give the medrol shot before realizing it is or isn't helping. I am desperate for some relief any help is appreciated. Thanks

If it is going to help, the benefit of depo-medrol should be apparent in 3 to 5 days. Trying DiflucanŽ (fluconazole) is a good idea also.

I think depo-medrol shots work quickly, usually within 24 hours at most & inmediately for some people. i've only have one mild shot of Depo & had some relief within 12 hours but due to an ongoing staph infection still had drainage. People I've talked with excessive drainage from allergies (like me) but with no infection, have said the relief in almost instantaneous.
