I have had this cough for 4 weeks now ,the symptoms are like none i've ever had I went to the DR and she said Bronchitis ..well I have no symptoms such as chest pain ,or even mucus,or even weezing.   The cough is not continuous...Only happens maybe 5 times a day  ..Its a hard cough sometimes with clear or white phlem but very little ,I cough out and feeel like i'm drowning ,Burping occurs and desperately try to catch my breathe in ...it almost sounds fake to others  .. i have coughed so hard that i'm to the point of pass out... Ive tried antibiotics and codiene and also elixir ..nothing helps.. it is also induced by movement  when i bend down or even roll over in my sleep..  there is no weezing, colored mucus ,Pain, fever -nothing  just a drowning feeling cough and gasping for air effect

2 chest X-rays and a CT Scan.....first chest x-ray showed a small area that they documented as pneumonia, about 10 days later the second chest xray was clear and about 2 weeks after that the CT scan was clear.  Started as a typical sinus cold the first couple of days in March, the cough got really bad (passing out and vomiting) about a week later.  Felt heaviness in the chest in the first month, but now I feel great other than the coughing fits 5-10 times a day always leading to drowning feeling immediately after coughing and almost always burping, which is probably just the air releasing that I gasp in to catch my breath.   I have also had blood work done and everything seemed normal, even my cholesterol was down :-)
Have you done a cta ( ct with contrast, looking at the vasculature)?

Pfts?

I currently have the same symptoms described - coughing fits occur 5-10 times a day mostly in the evening and early morning feeling of drowning, gasping for breath and burping following.  Has anyone determined the cause and or cure for this?   Did the symptoms resolve on their own from everyone.....

I've just heard a recording of a child coughing with pertussis (whooping cough).  I'm pretty much convinced that's what we have.

Did your symptoms go away on their own?  How long?  Any medications?

You didn't say how long you condition has been going on.  If more than a couple of days you should find something you can do without so you can pay for a visit to a clinic.  If the doctor writes a prescription, ask for a generic rather than a brand name, the cost will be much less if there is a generic.

I rarely have coughing problems, but in my many years of life I have had an occasion or two that it hurt my head and caused some minor regurgitation.  This never lasted more than a few minutes, it it had I would have seen a doctor.  Of course I have had health insurance, with deductibles, for most of my adult life.  These deductibles made me pay the full amount for up to some level before the insurance cut-in.  So when I was young and healthy my insurance usually paid very little of my occasional medical expense.  Medicine isn't free, just like a car breakdown, one finds the money to pay for needed work..

I have exactly the same symptoms.  I cough really hard, a little bit of white or clear mucus comes up, I sometimes burp in the middle of the cough, and then I struggle to catch my breath.  One time it was so violent that I threw up a little at the same time.  I don't really feel sick but at times it feels like I'm drowning.  I don't have insurance and I don't want to spend money for a clinic to just give me an antibiotic for bronchitis. I think this is something different. Surely someone out there has had this or knows what it is.  Please help!!!

Did your cough resolve?  Did any medication help?  How long did you have these symptoms?    I have the same symptoms and want to make sure my doctor is right and the cough will pass.  It has been 11 weeks since the first cold symptoms started and 8-9 weeks with the horrible cough fits that leave me gasping for breath

im reading your entries and its as if my husband wrote them.. he has had same symptoms as you and other poster.. coughs about 6-8 times a day durring the couph he feels like he has pushed something upwards in his lungs to prevent him from breathing..then he burps and desperately tries to catch his breath. i watched his face turn white :(     eventually he comes back to normal.. (if you call that normal)   im afraid to even go to a walk in clinic with him anymore.. there to rushed and underpaid to take the time to REALLY evaluate this.. they send us away with antibiotics and a bill >:(  and we have insurance.. could this be C.O.P.D  ??  Husband is 37 not a smoker but he dips and has done that for yeeears.. also builds boats so he has been in direct contact with fiberglass  without the high dollar bulkey masks,,  im worried

Im telling you I have the same exact thing you have and its so frustrating.  I have been out of work for three days and have had this cough for four weeks.  Its to the point now that I cant have a normal cough if I cough its like at the end of it sounds like im gaging or throwing up.  All that comes up is clear **** that feels like glue.  I honestly feel like im goint to sufficate because after I cough I have to make myself burp to casp for air.  My dr seens to say I have bronchitus.  She put me on an antibiotic for three days and it did nothing for me except make me want to eat everything in site.  She also gave me an inhaler and that didnt do a thing.  Please keep me posted as will I when I find out what is going on.

many times when you cough until you almost pass out, it is a sign of a lung infection....I would suggest you seek another opinion

I always hear people talk about reflux disease.  Since your burping...do you think it could be related?

Could be allergies...I'd see an allergist if your doctor isn't helping.  Why did she say Bronchitis?  Did she listen and hear something in your chest?  How about a chest Xray?
I bet it's related to allergies.

You don't smoke cigarettes or cigars do you?

Also, coughing does occur in reflux...(as far as what I'm told from taking the kids to the doctor)
