elongated uvula

during the night all of a sudden I found myself awakened by the urge to cough. It felt like I had some soft mucus in my throat, went to try and cough it out. It just wouldn't go away. Then with a flashlight I looked into my throat to shocked by my uvula hanging nearly an inch down. How scary! It isn't sore, or unusually colored, just hanging in my throat. The only thing I'd had unusual to eat (if allergy related) was a couple slices of pizza. I hope this is all it is, but am making an immediate appointment with my doctor.
