excessive yawning

by Mon_Fe, Sep 13, 2008 01:01AM
Yeah, I have some kind of yawning thing. I yawn all the time even if I've gotten a good amount of sleep or even if it's my favorite class. Some parts of the day I could yawn once and then have the need to keep doing it like I can't help it and it's uncomfortable to try to just not yawn. And I'm yawning right now just cause of thinking about it. Is this something bad or is there something I can do to get rid of it, cause it's getting quite annoying.

This discussion is related to yawning excessively and taking deep breathes.

I've also been trying to figure out what my sighing and yawning problem is.  I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple weeks ago and I thought that's what the cause was, but no one on this online sleep apnea forum I go to has it.

I looked up some stuff and found it could be GERD, acid reflux, or anxiety.  They used to call frequent sighing "sighing dyspnea" but apparently don't any more, and "sighing dyspnea" is considered a form of anxiety.

I'd love to know what this is.  I've had bloodwork and 2 doctor's examinations since this started and all were fine.

I am not sure what causes thes excessive yawning, I was doing that right after I was invulved in a very traumatic  and frightning incident.. I believe it was a part of post traumatic stress.  It went away after several months. It could be your bodies attempt to get more oxygen.. My only other thought would be make sure you are not being exposed to carbon monoxide or some other toxic gas. If no physical cause can be found and your MD is aware of the problem, I would look into something to reduce your stress and lower your anxiety. Medications are a quick fix but the root of the problem needs to be addressed as well... I am a psychiatirc nurse ..I also suffer from Gerd and at times high anxiety.  I beleve if you are unable to control your anxiety levels,, you should see a counselor or psychiatrist.. Too much anxiety  leads to other physical problems.. then .. More anxiety.. nip it in the bud.. as soon as you are aware of it.

Thanks for you comment, maybe it is my anxiety causing my yawning, i have been suffering with anxiety and agoraphobia for a while now, i see a mental health nurse and psychiatrist we havent really covered the anxiety yet so i shall mention about the yawning and see what they say.
