Each night when I awake or the first deep breath in the morning it is very uncomfortable.  Could you please explain why this might be so.

Thank You, pat

Since it is only your first deep breath of the morning that is very uncomfortable, the most likely cause is an awkward sleeping position.  It almost certainly has nothing to do with your lungs.  However if your symptoms continue throughout the rest of the day, a thorough physical exam needs to done by your doctor and perhaps a chest x-ray to find out the nature of the problem.  Only after finding the problem that is causing your symptoms can you be started on the most helpful treatment.
