gleevec for asthma?

gleevec for asthma?

I have a couple of questions.  My history is already on here from before.  Basically steroid dependent Asthma, currently on 200mg IM shots everyday and 120mg oral.  This treatment seems to keep me somewhat stable.  Recently my doctor talked to me about a couple of different option I would like an opinion on.  First, Gleevec.  I know its a chemo drug, but Im not sure how well it works for people  with asthma.  I know it does not have the side effects of normal chemo, Ive just had so many drugs I dont want to go on anything that is not going to work.  They are going to do a bone marrow test before they prescribe it.
The other thing is bronchial thermoplasty.  I know that institute Im at is I think the only place that does it, and its still extremly experimental, but Im pretty sure I can no longer be on this much prendisone for much longer its been 2 years and some days I can not even walk because I have so much fluid in my body.
Please if you have any information I would be so greatful.
Thanks again

You should not resort to the unconventional therapies you are asking about.

As mentioned previously you have a very severe and complicated problem.  It can only be addressed in an institution that assesses people who are similar to you.  You should seek a second opinion to be sure of your problem and to find the best treatment for you.  This kind of evaluation is typically offered at major academic medical centers such as Johns Hopkins, The Cleveland Clinic or National Jewish Medical and Research Center.  It may be that you have significant steroid resistance that is preventing your steroids from having the desired result.  It may be that there are other complicating circumstances that need to be found and addressed.  It is easy to understand your frustrations and fears.  Trying to find help that is credible is your next alternative.  This should be done before agreeing to any more experimental medicine or lung surgery.

I hope that you are all right after your experience with what sounded like acute gastrointestinal bleeding.
