There are very many potential causes of blood throughout the lungs and every one is serious, even life-threatening.  Determination of the cause would require much additional information of the circumstances of this person’s illness.  The physician who did the bronchoscopy would be the best person to answer your question, indicate what treatment might be required besides the respirator and venture a prognosis.  Do not hesitate to arrange for a meeting with his/her doctor(s) and then do not be reluctant to ask hard questions.

Good luck
