The Yog Pranayam will help with controlling asthma like problems. The benefit is gradual, so allow time, and come back with your feedback.
Initially try kapalbhati about 10 times and see how you feel, then start doing all the pranayam.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.
Bhastrika pranayam- Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. COPD(Chronic..Obstructive....Pulmonary....Disease). Emphysema is a Type of COPD if that gives you an Idea. I'll explain, when a person takes a breath, your lungs expand, then deflate. A COPD patient "tries" to take a breath and the lungs are already expanded, they do not have anymore room to expand. It is like a "baloon that has been blown up too many times, it is already streched out. So the trick is.... to get the lungs to deflate!! You have to get all the air out, so you can then take a breath. This is done by"Pursed Lip Breathing" you breath IN your nose 1...2..3.., then breath out your mouth by pursing your lips, "like your trying to whistle, or kiss someone" you eehale twice as long as you inhale, 1..2..3..4..5..6. This will help when a peron feels short of breath. You can take breathing treatments with medine that dilate your brochial tubes so air can pass thru there easily. Before you speak take a breath, and so on. This is a progressive disease, and breathing is something we noramlly dont have to put much thought into, but when you start having trouble, then we have to train ourselves to breath like we need to. I hope this helps, I'm a Respiratory Therapist and have been for 10 years. I truley hope you get some relief, see a Pulmonologist, and he will better help you with your lungs.
