interstitial lung disease

My child has interstitial lung disease. He is 8 years old. Cause is not known yet, were tested for metabolic disorder, results not known yet. He has a cold at the moment, does not sound that the lungs are involved. Should I take him to the doctor. He had a cough for about 3 weeks. No fever.
