low lung capacity and heart pain

by Wanda Cruz, Aug 09, 2007 07:31AM
I had pneumonia in June 2007 which left scarring in my lungs.  My lung capacity is still very low.  It is now at 53.  I still have pain around my left breast that goes to my left arm and discomfort right in the middle of my chest that goes right through me to my back.  I've had numerous test done by my cardiologist but he says there is nothing wrong with my heart.  I'm also seeing a pulmonary specialist but am getting nowhere.  We have ruled out asthma.  I constantly feel like I'm having a heart attack especially when the pain is sharp, I start sweating, feel nauseous, weak and feel like I have heartburn.  I'm constantly tired.  I've stopped working but still have to take care of the house.  Going up the stairs makes my chest hurt. This is very frustrating because no one can tell me what's going on.  Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

My husband has end stage COPD he has about 20% lung capacity and his biggest complaint other than not being able to breathe is constant stabbing pain in his left chest and he has been told it is because he struggles to breathe that it irritates his chest wall cavity the pain is so bad he is on some major pain medication, he always had heart burn and they put him on prilosec prescription strength and he breaks out into sudden sweats with upset stomach and dizziness I am no professional but it sounds like it is just part of the lung problem and that is unfortunate because I know my husband suffers daily.... Best of luck
