low oxygen levels and scarring on lungs

My dad is presently in hospital with low blood oxygen levels and they have found scarring on the base of both of his lungs. He thought he had a chest infection and flu like symptoms for the last three weeks. After not improving on two types of antibiotics and his breathing got really strained he was admitted. They have done various tests and a lung biopsy but the results can take upto three weeks. They say it could either be a virus or a reaction to something. If anyone else has any ideas or has had similar symptoms would appreciate hearing from you as he is constantly on oxygen and his levels keep fluctuating. Thanks
