lung and chest health and phlem

Good Morning!
Everyday for the last few months I have awakened with a heavy chest and swallowing a lot of phlem!  Could this be a food allergy all of a sudden or something related to my thyroid or hypertension (which is a family trait)!  Thank you!  I'm healthy otherwise!

There are many possible reasons for  increased drainage down the back of your throat. Food allergy and thryroid problems are not one of the more likely ones. This can be due to allergic and nonallergic reasons. Your sinuses can be inflamed or infected.  It may be that the weather is colder and there is more irritation from the cold or from heating systems. Increased blood pressure and the medications to treat it can also be a factor. Usually this dainage is fairly easily treated. I would suggest seeing your physician. If he/she can be sure this is not an infection nor related to increased blood pressue, antihistamines or inhaled nasal steroids are safe medications that may control this problem.
