multiple lung nodules

multiple lung nodules

The doctor has been tracking multiple lung nodules over the past three years.  The latest CT scan show that one of these nodules has appeared to grow.  A new CT scan will be done in four months.  What could be causing this besides cancer?  Thanks

The nodule could be a tumor that is not cancer.  It could also be a granuloma.  That is a scar that is left behind after a lung infection.  Sometimes a granuloma can remain unchanged for years.  Then begin to grow even without the original infection flaring up.

Sarcoidosis should not be dismissed as an unlikely but possible culprit. Consider requesting that your doctor have your ACE levels checked (this requires only a simple blood draw on your part) if they haven't already done so. This is particularly of note if you experience any systemic or atypical inflammatory symptoms that have baffled you or your physician.

Following up on comments, I have just been tested for TB and have taken the ACE test.  Negative on TB, but the ACE test is 89.  On the Cat scan they also found an enlarged lymph node on the lung (1  cm.) and a low density lesioon (1.3 cm) on the liver.  Are these further indications of the possibility of sarcoidosis?

since X-mas 99 ive had growths, the first in my axilla area, second in my clavicle area both on the left side. in the past ive been positive for a cyst or something near the dome of my liver and now a focal calcification-granuloma or something within the dome of my liver, as well as two remarkable nodules in the right lower lobe lung each 4-5 mm (evidently since 09-01), am positive for emphysema, mitral valve prolapse, duplicate kidney with eurethia , acid reflux syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, cysts on kidneys, cysts on ovaries,anemia,H-Pylori,endometriosis and endometritus, chronic uti, chronic hematuria, chronic high WBC and low RBC,chronic low CO2,A-1 alpha antitrypsin deficient,myelocytic/monocytic antigens, chronic high MCH,deformed(fom muscle spasm)lordacic curve, herniated and bulging discs(L4-L5 surgically removed),calcification over pelvic area-spine-lungs, and hepatitus (hepatitis) from infancy. even though these are diagnosis i believe that a common  something has/is causing all of this as opposed to a multitude of unrelated issues. as far as im concerned im undiagnosed and not the only one.
