neck glad swelling ear fullness

by dwjw, Oct 07, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 62 yo who has a history of 40 years of smoking.  I've quit.  About 4 months ago my right ear started feeling full, then I noticed swollen glands on that side of my neck.  My tonsil looks a little swollen on that side but no white spots.  Many bouts with tonsillites as a child.  I have had post nasal drip with constant clearing of my throat and dry cough for years.
Within the 4 months nothing has gotten better or worse.  I tried 5 days of antibiotics which I dont know if they did anything.  I was in Las Vegas over that time and after 3 days the symptoms started getting better.  I then got the flu and didnt finish the antibiotice. So, I'm not sure if it was the no pollen on the strip in Las Vegas or the antibiotics.

Continued as it posted before I finished.  I have a small spot that is sore in my throat on that side as well.
I have tried antihistmine with no improvement.  I now am taking a decongestant every 3 hours and most times that takes the symptoms away.  I can still feel my neck glands swollen though.
My family doctor is sending me to an ENT but unforunately I cant get an appt for another month.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

i've got a swollen gland on the back of my neck.  my ENT has me on antibiotics for two weeks and will then recheck.  if swelling isn't gone, i will need to get an mri.  hope it's gone by then.  how are you doing now?

i just noticed the part about now finishing your antibiotics.  you MUST.  patients not finishing their course of antibiotics is what is causing the increasing amount of antibiotic resistance.  the germs come back stronger than ever!
