one year old with bad morning cough

Good morning, My son will be 1 year old on friday and has a morning chronis cough that won't stop, it starts as a dry cough and then he thru-up some flams, usualy yellow, he has been doing that for a few months, he was under antiobiotics numerous of time but it never stops.. he doesn't wake up or cough at all during the night but only when he is wakes us and during the day, he thrup up a few times day. his noise runs all the time, he has problem with pieces of food, and gag a lot even for no reason, sometimes he puts his finger in his month and make himself gag.. He doesn't gain to much weight either.
He was treated for Acid reflex when he was 3 months old. I had to stop breastfeeding because he had a little jaunadice, after that he thru-up all the formulas.. the only one he could drink was one from Europe that we tried when we were visiting family in Spain. He is now drinking regular milk Skim or 2%,  his cough and thrup up seems to be worst with whole milk or chocolate milk.. I tried every cough medication and nothing is working.. Have you heard of anybody with that particular problem? what is it? he is going to outgrow it? Should I be worry about future complication?
Please excuse my english but I am from France and still not fluent..

This is a common problem is young children.  The cause of this problem usually is one or both of the following things.  The first is that your son has developed a chronic sinus infection.  These children have symptoms exactly like you have described.  They need a CT of the sinuses to make the diagnosis and if this is positive, a few weeks of antibiotic therapy.

A second cause is from allergy.  This could be an inhaled allergy or a food allergy.  It could be causing an upper airway drainage, which may or may not become a secondary infection.  Or, this allergy could be causing an asthma problem with all the coughing.

You will need to spend some time with your son’s doctor to develop a plan to find the cause and then work on taking care of the cause.

there are a number of things that might be going on.......one is reflux that he may still have.....two is he may have post nasal drip....three is he might have a lactose intolerance.....all these things should be checked out by his pediatrician......good luck

IS the Lacose Intolerance can cause that cough? why would he cough only when he is awake and not during the night? he is going to his doctor this morning.. he just getting worse and loosing too much weight.. and too much energy..

has he been checked out for celaic disease? it is caused by an inteollerance/allergy to wheat and or guten. It can damage the digestive linings and prevent proper nutistional absorbtion and low weight gain in children. I had fool allergies with wheat, gluten and SOY which gave me excessive mucous and frequent sinus infections. in the morning I'd cough violently and vomit from the coughing. My breathing got difficult during the day and half the night because of food during the day. In the early morning until I ate I was fine. Since avoinding wheat, gluten and SOY for a fews week I'm back to normal. Maybe this will help.

Well he went to the doctor and was diagnost again with a sinus infection and ear infection, he has been under antibiotic since then,, he was doing perfectly fine, gained about 3 pd.. was eating  still coughing a little bit in the morning and I had to bring him back again this morning.. the ear infection is not going away, he had 2 shots of antibiotics and will be back to the doctor tomorrow..I guess one of the problem with the ACid reflex disease is the sinus infection and ear infection, exessive drowling... I just hope in a few months all that will be history.. thank you so so much for your advice...

MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAD A CHRONIC COUGH WITH THROWING UP PLEME FOR 5 MONTHS,DOCTORS TREATED HER WITH ANTIBIOTICS AND ASTMA MEDS WHICH NOTHING WORKED,SHE COUGHED SO HARD AND SO LONG THE WHITES OF HER EYES TURNED RED,PUT HER ON STEROIDS WHICH ONLY MADE HER GAIN WEIGHT,THIS WENT ON FOR MONTHS,FINALLY GOT FED UP WITH DOCS AROUND HERE AND WENT TO LEBONHEUR CHILDRENS HOSPITAL 3 HOURS AWAY FROM HERE IN MEMPHIS,WHERE SHE SPENT ALL TOGETHER OVER 2 WEEKS,THEY DID NOT STOP UNTILL THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM,THEY TESTED FOR CYCTIC FIBROSIS,TB,WHOOPING COUGH,THEY SCOPED HER LUNGS,DONE AN UPPER AND LOWER ENDISCOPY BECAUSE IT GOT WHERE SHE HAD BLOOD IN HER STOOLS AND COUGHING UP SOME BLOOD,FINAL DIAGOSE,SEVERE ACID REFLUX,AN INFECYED FUNGAL ESOPHAGUS,AND CHRONIC SINUS DISEASE WHICH ALL THAT WILL GIVE A SEVERE COUGH,SHE JUST HAD SINUS SERGERY 2 WEEKS AGO,HER SINUSES WERE 100 PERCENT BLOCKED AND THEY REMOVED 2 PUS FILLED CISTS IN SINUSES AND REMOVED ADNOIDS AGAIN(SHE HAD TOCILS AND ADNOIDS OUT LAST JULY AND ADOIDS GREW BACK)SHES DOING SO MUCH BETTER,STILL TAKING PREVICID FOR REFLUX AND SINUS SPRAYS,SHE DIDNT EVEN HAVE ASTHMA AND THE MEDS THE OTHER DOCS WERE GIVING HER LIKE STEROIDS ONLY MADE HER WORSE AND GAIN OVER 20 POUNDS IN THESE MONTHS AND GAVE HER HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND INFECTED HER ESOPHGUS BAD SO PLEASE IF HES NOT GETTING ANY BETTER HAVE A SECOND OPION,MY LITTLE ONE GOT VERY SICK BECAUSE THESE DOCTORS HERE DIDNT TAKE THE TIME AND REALLY CHECK HER OUT,HOPE ALL GOES WELL-LITTLVICK0
