paralised diapham

My husband has been diagnosed with a  paralised diaphram. After lots of tests no cause has been found. Is this normal? what exercises can he do to help increase his lung capacity?

The first step is for your husband’s physicians to attempt to find the cause of his paralyzed diaphragm.  You mention that some tests have been performed.  You and his physicians may need to request consultation with a lung specialist (pulmonologist) to conduct a more systematic approach to the necessary diagnostic evaluation.  A number of causes of this type of paralysis are reversible and some will reverse spontaneously over time.  Spontaneous recovery can take a year or more.

Your husband could embark on a regular aerobic exercise program to the limit of what his current respiratory function will allow.  This will enable him to exert himself consistently at a higher level than would otherwise be possible, even were his diaphragm to remain unresponsive.

Good luck
