persistant cough brown mucus

I had a cold, which turned into just a cough. This cough is horrible, a deep from the gut cough like my body is trying to eject the phlegm 900 yards. I cough so hard i get a headache. I have a constant tickle in my throat and no matter how hard i cough it won't go away(no im not forcing myself to cough) just when i do, the tickle doesn't go away. I have no insurance so the doctor thing is not an option at this point. My question is, what can I do besides just drink lots of fluid? can someone tell me the proper steroids to get, and ill just buy them online. any help would be appreciated.
