phenyephrine nasal spray

I was just wondering if it's okay to use phenyephrine spray on a long term basis provided the following points are true:  1) it gives a great deal of symptom relief, 2) maximum daily dosage is not exceeded, 3) severe 24/7 turbinate dysfunction was present before it was ever used to begin with

Every day, I have a dull, never ending pressure headache usually centered back behind my upper nose and eyes, and forehead, also with a great deal of tension across my forehead.  I also tend to feel what I believe to be a referred pain to my upper neck.   I also awaken with frequent severe throbbing headaches worse with exercise, and elevated BP.

All these symptoms were present before phenylephrine was used at all.  But use of the spray instantly shrinks my turbinates and provides instant 50% headache relief.

What is your assesment of my condition and is it okay to use the spray until a solution is found, since my nose is allready swolen if I don't use it?

Thank you.

It is not a good idea to use this spray chronically.  It causes "rebound" swelling of the lining of the nose.  After taking it daily for a prolonged period, you will need to work with your doctor to allow you to withdraw from its use without the swelling being a major problem as this is occurring.
