I have a lot of pain on the left side of my back, just below my shoulder blades; especially when I take deep breaths... Does anyone know what it might be?

Yes, ultrasound will show if you have stones - or if it is irregular -  should be a normal pear shape and clear if no stones or problems

If they cannot be 100% positive, insist on further testing.

We are the first line in our own safety.  The doctor cannot read our minds and will not order testing if we just say, "Oh, okay."

I had a cough for a year now.  Nov 07 had pleurisy.  Turned to pleural effusion.  Because of this trouble, of course, I had a lot of CT scans and x-rays.  This found the gall stones.  The gall bladder attacks I had were awful, but I never told anyone I was having them as I thought they were just me getting old and not able to eat like I used to be able to eat ( I am also 48).
SO - July 4 -  gall bladder attack so bad I was ready to go to the ER.  Didn't though.

Long story short - Sep 11, 08 - had my gall bladder out.

Still coughing and short of breath though. Not sure why.

Don't let an x-ray determine if you have something or not - they do miss stuff.

Ask for a CT scan or further testing.  If it hurts, there is probably a reason.   And a gall bladder is not something to say "oh, well, it's just my gall bladder."  They can leak and do very bad things -

Be a pest if you have to, get them to check you further.

Good luck,

Carol
