pros and cons of laproscopy surgery

My fiance had his first laproscopy surgery two weeks ago. He was having complications of swallowing. He had to have an endoscopy, to see if there was any blockage. The physician didn't find any but he still couldn't swallow.  A second surgery was performed and afterwards he could swallow. But afterwards, his uvula was swollen very bad; it was touching his tongue.  I would like to know if this is normal and what can he do to bring the uvula back to it's nomal size? What are the pro and cons of this surgery?

The swollen uvula after surgery is common.  It should return to its previously normal size over time.  National Jewish Medical and Research Center does not perform surgery.  So we cannot provide experience-based comments on the pros and cons of laparoscopy surgery.
