pseudomas

Does IV antibiotics possibly rid a child of pseudomonas? My son, age 7, has been on ongoing oral antibiotics since he was 2! We have tried everything, but the doctor says the pseudomonas he cultured makes it hard for him to completely clear up. We never did the iv antibiotic. Is it worth looking in to? Our fear is that he will get immune to the antibiotic and then be in real danger. Thank you.

Hi there,

How many times has your son cultured pseudomonas? Does he have an underlying condition. Pseudos can be tricky little buggers. Like NJC suggested... an infectious disease doc is an excellent place to start.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
This is obviously a very difficult problem.  Your best bet is to work with a pediatric infectious disease doctor.  This type of specialist sees these problems regularly.  It is possible that building a higher level with IV antibiotics will have a different result.  However, this is really something that this specialist has to decide.
