While increased appetite and weight gain are possible side effects with an inhaled steroid, your weight gain is not necessarily caused by your inhalants.  Ask your doctor if it might be possible to control your asthma with a lower dose inhaled steroid.  Also there may be other reasons for weight gain, including physical inactivity that should be addressed.  Please read our asthma information at http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/diseases/asthma/index.aspx to learn more.

I have finally come to realize many of my "symptoms" are the triggers in my environment. I was out of town 3 1/2 weeks. Hardly any coughing at all. Now i am home, coughing lots again. sometimes having asthma attacks several times per day. Need to rip out carpet in my apartment as it is 40 yrs old, many pet stains. I do best when I have no food within 4 hours of sleep, less reflux to trigger my asthma. I had to quit coffee, it triggered my asthma. and doctor said yogurt is too acidic, so i nixed that or only have in a.m., same as orange juice. my dry cough is helped by using a saline nasal spray to loosen and cleanse. sinus' then I use my steroidal nasal spray right after that. nasonex seems to work the best, but it is about $30 month.
