severe heartpain

Yesterday evening I thought I was having a heart attack. I was out walking the dog when I had knife like pains in my heart and couldn't breathe in and out without making it worse. I just had to stand still and hardly breathe. My heart hurt and felt like it was sort of turning itself inside out if I can put it like that. It was really scary. Eventually it abated and I made my way gingerly home where I said to my husband, I think I just had a heart attack. But my colour was normal, I was not in a sweat or anything so obviously not. I have had these symptoms before but this time was the worst lasting about 5 mins. Is this harmless or should I get my heart checked out?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

It could be angina, pain due to inadequate supply of oxygen to the heart muscle. This could be more relevant if you are a smoker, are overweight, have a positive family history, are a diabetic and have hypertension. The other causes to consider would be cervical spondylosis (neck problem) or disorders of the nerves, muscle or shoulder joint.   It would be wise to consult a doctor just to be sure it’s nothing more serious

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
